CHEP

REQUIREMENT:

CHEP had a requirement to reduce injuries and damage from forklift operation and to protect the mobile equipment assets from inappropriate use.

CHEP’s pallet refurbishment and storage warehouses are a very rugged environment in which forklifts operate in relatively tough conditions.

In order to reduce risk of injury to employees, CHEP undertook to implement a traffic management scheme incorporating various speed control mechanisms, transmission control and enforced driver restraints.

SOLUTION:

  • Speedshield Logic Based Driver Restraints
  • Speedshield RFID Zoned Speed Control
  • Speedshield Transmission Control
  • Speedshield Lift Height Speed Control

DETAILS:

Speedshield zone based speed control has been implemented to provide up to 3 differing maximum speeds per site, ensuring forklifts are traveling at safe and appropriate speeds in different warehouse areas.

Additionally some vehicles are fitted with lift height speed control to limit their speed depending on whether the vehicle is traveling with the tyne raised. Speedshield ensures forklifts operate to the lower of the tyne height speed control or the zone speed control where relevant.

CHEP has implemented Speedshield Transmission Control which protects the vehicle transmission from being forced into forward or reverse whilst traveling in the opposite direction. This has provided an additional benefit in reduced tire wear.

CHEP via Speedshield’s Logic Based Driver Restraints is able to enforce drivers to use the safety restraints in the correct and appropriate manner. In order to start the vehicle drivers must follow the procedure of sitting on the vehicle, engage the seatbelt and swipe the identification card/tag.
