Case Study

Iplex (Crane Group)

REQUIREMENT:

Crane aimed to address the safety issues around mobile plant. The issues identified were speeding forklifts,\ inappropriate use of safety restraints and forklift speed with tynes raised. Additionally, reduction in repairs and maintenance on vehicles was an objective.

SOLUTION:

Speedshield Speed and Acceleration Control

Speedshield Logic Based Driver Restraints

Speedshield Lift Height Speed Control

Speedshield Transmission Control

DETAILS:

Crane decided to implement a number of the Speedshield capabilities to address safety and usage issues.

A site maximum speed limit was set for all vehicles and this is controlled by the Speed and Acceleration control capability.

Appropriate use of safety restraints and interlocks was ensured by the introduction of the Speedshield system.

Combinations of seat, seatbelt and handbrake restraints are used to control configurable time periods for alarms and vehicle power down should the operator not engage or disengage the interlocks in the correct order.

Speedshield Transmission Control was implemented to protect the vehicle transmission from being forced into forward or reverse whilst traveling in the opposite direction. This reduces transmission repairs and tire wear and also provides a safer environment.

Finally Speedshield Lift Height Speed Control has been implemented with an alarm to provide speed control and a warning when vehicles are operating with tynes raised.

Combinations of seat, seatbelt and handbrake restraints are used to control configurable time periods for alarms and vehicle power down should the operator not engage or disengage the interlocks in the correct order.
