Imagine if your car knew what the current speed limit was, and
would not let you travel over this speed limit. The Speedshield
Intelligent Traffic Management System can do this and much
more.
Each vehicle fitted with the Speedshield Traffic Management
System has an onboard roads speed limit database. The system
checks the current location of the vehicle and queries the database
to find the correct speed limit for the area. Once the speed
limit is known, it is clearly displayed to the driver via the in vehicle
unit and the maximum speed of the vehicle is actively limited.
The system also communicates with external devices, such as roadside
transceivers and roadworks bollards. These devices assist in
updating the onboard roads database, limiting the speed of the
vehicle in selected areas or warning the driver in advance of potential
hazards, such as level crossings or emergency vehicles.
Detailed data is logged and can be downloaded and viewed
directly on a PDA using Bluetooth wireless technology. Data includes
impact reports, number of times the speed limit was exceeded,
average speed and much more.
