KT Grant

Specializing in refractory lining, slag, and scale build-up removal services, KT-Grant navigates the challenges of operating specialist equipment in some of the harshest environments known to man - extreme heat. Challenge: KT-Grant’s existing safety infrastructure needed to address the unique challenges posed by its specialized equipment and high-temperature operations. Creating a customized safety solution capable of withstanding the intense heat became paramount. “The collaborative journey with Speedshield Technologies has been truly remarkable. The implementation of our tailored extreme heat-resistant AiVA safety system was nothing less than groundbreaking. AiVA has proved to be a resilient and trustworthy safety solution. The continuous development of state-of-the-art technology with Speedshield Technology instills confidence that AiVA will continue to play a pivotal role in KT-Grant’s ongoing commitment to safety initiatives in the years to come. Our employees can find reassurance knowing that KT-Grant prioritizes their safety and well-being through this custom-built safety system designed to safeguard their lives.” KT-Grant Solution: Recognizing KT-Grant’s unique requirements, the team from Speedshield Technologies engineered a bespoke safety solution incorporating the existing AiVA Pedestrian Detection System driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced machine vision. A custom-designed 4-camera audio and visual alert system with aluminum housing and a sapphire crystal glass front was implemented. Moreover, 30-ft cables were specially wrapped in a fire sleeve made from silicon and fiberglass, ensuring resilience in the face of extreme temperatures. Speedshield Technologies is also pioneering an integrated system with a switch to reset button, ultimately transitioning to a wireless setup for heightened flexibility. Results: The integration of Speedshield Technologies' customized AiVA safety solution introduced an innovative layer of safety for KT-Grant in its challenging operational environment. Both pedestrians and operators, often up to 35 feet away or on nearby mezzanine levels, now benefit from AiVA’s speed-liming and deactivation features. This prevents severe accidents and has been crucial in winning back clients concerned about the inherent safety risks in such extreme conditions. Outcomes: Significant reduction in near-miss incidents Enhanced pedestrian and operator safety Maintained uninterrupted workflows and minimized disruptions caused by severe accidents Increased employee satisfaction and engagement Enabled a focus on continuous improvement, creating a safer workplace Reduced material and machine costs associated with accidents Demonstrated KT-Grant's commitment to employee safety and well-being Delivered savings on insurance and liability costs Elevated KT-Grant's reputation as a business committed to safety and excellence

BHP

For this Australian mining giant, worker safety is a top priority. So, the company needed a game-changing solution to prevent collisions with heavy equipment across its five mining sites in Western Australia. Challenge: Mining giant BHP needed a cutting-edge solution to enhance forklift safety measures across its mining operations. “Speedshield Technologies has demonstrated professionalism and expertise throughout the implementation process, making it a smooth and collaborative experience for our operational team.” Solution: Speedshield Technologies installed its AiVA pedestrian detection system across BHP’s fleet of forklifts operating in the five mines. The robust weatherproof (sand and dust resistant) cameras and speaker systems were straight-forward to install and adaptable in Western Australia’s dynamic, rugged environment. AiVA also has a cooling system that doesn’t require cleaning, and the ability to detect pedestrians at a close distance has proven invaluable. Results: AiVA has significantly enhanced safety measures at BHP’s mining operations. It gives forklift and mining equipment operators real-time visibility, empowering them with comprehensive insights to make informed decisions and optimize security protocols. The ability of AiVA to detect pedestrians in the vicinity of BHP’s forklifts, coupled with its advanced audio and visual warning system, has played a crucial role in preventing potential accidents and ensuring the safety of the company’s workforce.

Amcor Materials Handling

Amcor

REQUIREMENT: To increase safety and reduce risk of injury, by ensuring seat belts are worn, by controlling authorized drivers only access to vehicles and by setting maximum speeds by zone within warehouses. Additionally to check vehicle conditions prior to start-up. SOLUTION: Speedshield Logic Based Driver Restraints and Driver Verification Speedshield RFID Zoned Speed Control and Alarms Speedshield Reporting and Control Module Speedshield Vehicle Monitor with Prestart Checklist DETAILS: Amcor has a major focus on safety in the workplace and thus is continuing to install Speedshield across many sites, to address forklift safety and vehicle care issues. The following have been implemented in varying degrees across the sites thus far: Speedshield Smart Card Driver verification was implemented due to problems with unauthorized personnel operating vehicles. The Speedshield system additionally integrates with the current payroll cards in use. To enforce drivers to use the safety restraints provided in an appropriate manner e.g. seatbelts, the Speedshield Logic Based Driver Restraints capability has been installed which ensures the driver correctly starts the forklift by sitting on the vehicle, engaging the seatbelt and swiping his identification card/tag before starting. This capability also controls vehicle alarms and power down should the operator alight from the vehicle. Speedshield zone based speed control has been implemented to provide differing maximum speeds, to ensure forklifts are traveling at safe and appropriate speeds in different areas, depending on varying levels of traffic and pedestrian activity. On some sites Speedshield is also triggering alarms to sound for vehicles traveling through doorways. The Speedshield web based Reporting and Control module provides an easy to use central control of driver authorizations and vehicle access and setting of other Speedshield parameters. Amcor have also fitted the Speedshield Vehicle Monitor Display unit for providing a customized pre start checklist as well as speed, weight and tilt displays.

CHEP Materials Handling

CHEP

REQUIREMENT: CHEP had a requirement to reduce injuries and damage from forklift operation and to protect the mobile equipment assets from inappropriate use. CHEP’s pallet refurbishment and storage warehouses are a very rugged environment in which forklifts operate in relatively tough conditions. In order to reduce risk of injury to employees, CHEP undertook to implement a traffic management scheme incorporating various speed control mechanisms, transmission control and enforced driver restraints. SOLUTION: Speedshield Logic Based Driver Restraints Speedshield RFID Zoned Speed Control Speedshield Transmission Control Speedshield Lift Height Speed Control DETAILS: Speedshield zone based speed control has been implemented to provide up to 3 differing maximum speeds per site, ensuring forklifts are traveling at safe and appropriate speeds in different warehouse areas. Additionally some vehicles are fitted with lift height speed control to limit their speed depending on whether the vehicle is traveling with the tyne raised. Speedshield ensures forklifts operate to the lower of the tyne height speed control or the zone speed control where relevant. CHEP has implemented Speedshield Transmission Control which protects the vehicle transmission from being forced into forward or reverse whilst traveling in the opposite direction. This has provided an additional benefit in reduced tire wear. CHEP via Speedshield’s Logic Based Driver Restraints is able to enforce drivers to use the safety restraints in the correct and appropriate manner. In order to start the vehicle drivers must follow the procedure of sitting on the vehicle, engage the seatbelt and swipe the identification card/tag.
